Tennessee families have easy access to some of the most beautiful scenery in the Southeast — and they tend to want a dog that fits that outdoor, family-centered lifestyle. The Standard Goldendoodle fits Tennessee life naturally. Strong Oaks has been placing puppies with Tennessee families for years, and the drive from most of the state is more manageable than people expect.
Where We Are and How Far We Are From You
Strong Oaks Goldendoodles is located in Morganton, NC — in the Blue Ridge Mountains between Charlotte and Asheville. For Tennessee families, Morganton sits right at the edge of where North Carolina and the mountains begin:
Johnson City, Kingsport, and Bristol — about 1.5 hours east on I-26. The Tri-Cities area is one of our closest Tennessee markets and we place puppies there regularly. An easy half-day trip.
Knoxville — about 2 hours east on I-40. A very manageable drive through the Great Smoky Mountains corridor, and one that Knoxville families make regularly to pick up a Strong Oaks puppy.
Asheville sits right between Knoxville and Morganton — many Tennessee families come through Asheville on the way and make a day of it in the mountains.
Chattanooga — about 2.5 hours on I-75 north and then east. A straightforward drive and a very active market for us.
Nashville — about 4.5 hours, a longer commitment but one that Music City families regularly make because the quality and trust they find at Strong Oaks is not something they find closer to home.
Memphis — about 6 hours, typically handled via flight nanny or transport rather than a pickup day drive.
Why Tennessee Families Choose Strong Oaks
Tennessee families — particularly those in the eastern part of the state — share a lot of values with us. A love of the mountains, an appreciation for genuine quality, and a preference for breeders who are transparent and stand behind what they produce.
Both of our parent dogs are DNA tested through Embark before any breeding takes place — screening for over 250 genetic health conditions. Those results are publicly available and we want every Tennessee family to review them before applying. Meet our parent dogs on our Our Dogs page.
Our puppies are born inside our home for the first five weeks of their lives — surrounded by the sounds and warmth of real family life, handled daily, and raised with intentional early stimulation from day one. We follow a structured ENS and early socialization protocol that produces puppies that are noticeably more confident and adaptable than those raised without it. At five weeks they move to our dedicated puppy building, where a doggie door gives them access to the outside and they begin learning to go potty on their own.
Every puppy we place comes with a 5-year health guarantee covering crippling hip and elbow dysplasia, pathological spinal disorders, and life-threatening genetic defects. We have stood behind that guarantee for over 30 years.
The Goldendoodles We Raise
We breed F1, F1B, and F1BB Standard Goldendoodles — typically 50 to 80 pounds as adults. Tennessee’s outdoor lifestyle — the Smoky Mountains, Tennessee River and its lakes, state parks and open spaces — is a natural fit for the Standard Goldendoodle. These are athletic, water-loving dogs that thrive in exactly the kind of active environments Tennessee families enjoy.
Not sure which generation is right for your family? Our complete guide to Goldendoodle generations breaks down the differences clearly. You can also read about Goldendoodle coat types, temperament, and how big Standard Goldendoodles get in our Goldendoodle Resources library.
These dogs are exceptional with children and deeply bonded to the families they join. The combination of Golden Retriever warmth and Poodle intelligence produces a family dog that consistently exceeds expectations — and our Breed Information page explains exactly why.
What Does a Goldendoodle Cost?
Our honest breakdown of what a Goldendoodle costs and why is worth reading before you start comparing breeders. Understanding what drives the price difference between a responsible breeding program and a casual one helps Tennessee families make better decisions.
Choosing the Right Breeder
Our guide on what to look for in a Goldendoodle breeder gives Tennessee families 10 specific questions to ask before committing to anyone. It is worth reading regardless of which breeder you ultimately choose.
You Come to Us and Choose Your Puppy
When a litter is ready, Tennessee families come to Morganton to meet the puppies in person. We share our observations and help guide your decision — but the choice is always yours. Tri-Cities, Knoxville, and Chattanooga families typically find the drive very manageable and make a day of it. Nashville families often plan it as an overnight. For families who cannot make the drive, we work with trusted flight nannies and transport options to get puppies home safely.
Support After Your Puppy Comes Home
Joe has been working with dogs professionally since 1992 and that experience is available to every Tennessee family we work with — by phone, for the life of their dog. Our Goldendoodle Resources library covers grooming, training, the first week home, ENS and early socialization, and much more.
Other Areas We Serve
In addition to Tennessee, we regularly place puppies with families in North Carolina, Charlotte, Asheville, South Carolina, Virginia, and Georgia.
